My Little Angels
Nothing Like Teasing your Sister
A little ring around the xmas tree and some 7 year old attitude!
At the beach of course…… wait….. nope not the beach…. to our sons disappointment…. Salton Sea was not the beach! HA!!!!
My kids have no idea what they got into when mom & dad gave up their vacation to kauai in leiu of a trailer to see the USA. As much as I already can’t stand the sound of “are we there yet” I just love knowing we are out together as a family making memories. I am waiting patiently for the whinning of “are we there yet” turns into siblings fighting in the back seat and mom and dad yelling “don’t make me turn this car around!”. (Rich is laughing over my should right now as I type this…. )
We took Loosey (long story on the name… but it almost lost it’s tire on the 405 fwy (due to loose lug nuts) on it’s maden voyage home to the reis family home… are you laughing yet? and the salesman thought I was nuts for making him fax the title over to our insurance company before I would drive it off it lot!) wait where was I… We took Loosey out for a quick trip before the holiday. Zane had the week of school off so why not!?
We met up with Aunt Dianne, got to show Zada the bird Sancuary. She loved running around and looking at the birds. Zane got to feed “freedie the freeloader” some mice that were “sleeping”.
The Salton Sea is very mysterious. It had a mist over the lake the entire time we were there. I kept envisioning what it must of been like back in the 1950′s. The beach boys playing in the back ground, frank sinatra…. cool cars, fun metal boats (what were they called again?) and of course those bathing suits! The small towns surrounding the Sea were like ghost towns. The sky was clear the first night with TONS of stars. Amazing… I need to look up at the sky at night more! We roasted marshmallows every night. Zane was in heaven!
We hiked to a real life oasis, it was very neat. Ate some dates and saw lots of evidence of wildlife. We found the “mud pots” which were really cool. I guess since it’s close to the San Andreas fault line, there is a lot of geothermal vents in the area. We ran into two geologists as we were looking for the “pots” and they had lots of wonderful info to share with us. They even met back up with us at the mud pots telling us more about the area. What a treat!
The sunsets were amazing. If I did not take a picture of it, the best way to desribe it would be, the sunset “puked” pink. Sorry… not other way to put it…. it was a explosion of PINK in the sky. (okay so there is another way to describe it)
The “Sea” didn’t really smell as bad as I thought…. the beach was covered in the white barnical shells. Lots of pelicans and seagulls. (oh yeah and dead fish washed up on the shore) Needless to say we didn’t hurry out to put on any swim suits and go out on the boogie boards…. (again to Zane’s disappointment!)
The only major disappointment was the vistor center did not have a bumper sticker to stick on our trailer. Thank goodness fore Cafe Press you can buy just about anything on a shirt or sticker there!
